On May 6 at Rizzoli Bookstore, poet and translator Michael Hofmann will be in conversation with Pulitzer-Prize winning novelist Joshua Cohen to discuss Wolfgang Koeppen's Trilogy of Failure: the great lost classics, The Hothouse, Death in Rome and Pigeons on the Grass.

Michael Hofmann's and Joshua Cohen's conversation and Q&A will be a celebration of the completed release of Koeppen's postwar trilogy, begun in 2020 with Pigeons on the Grass and completed this May with The Hothouse and Death in Rome.

The poet Michael Hofmann’s awards for translation include the PEN/Book-of-the-Month Club Prize, the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize, the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, the Helen and Kurt Wolff Translator’s Prize, the Oxford-Weidenfeld Translation Prize, the Schlegel-Tieck Prize (four times), and most recently, the American Academy’s Thornton Wilder Prize in Translation.

Joshua Cohen was born in 1980 in Atlantic City. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 2022 for The Netanyahus: An Account of a Minor and Ultimately Even Negligible Episode in the History of a Very Famous Family. He lives in New York City.
