Join us for the launch of Perfecting the Shot, a new novel by Prix Goncourt winner Mathias Énard (Compass), translated by Charlotte Mandell.

In a city torn apart by a civil war, Perfecting the Shot follows a teenage sniper who lurks on rooftops, shooting at civilians while his mentally ill mother cowers in their apartment. His routine is eventually disrupted by the arrival of Myrna, a 15-year-old girl hired to care for his mother, and his disturbing obsession with Myrna threatens to push them all over the brink.

Énard’s latest book exposes the disastrous effects of extreme violence with precision and lyricism. At the event, he’ll be joined by National Book Award finalist Nicole Krauss, author of Great House. They will discuss Énard’s work, exploring the intersections of writing and translation. All tickets include a signed copy of Perfecting the Shot. In-person tickets guarantee a seat, and Énard will sign books after the event.

Mathias Énard is the author of Compass (winner of the Prix Goncourt, the Leipzig Prize, and the Premio von Rezzori, and shortlisted for the 2017 Man Booker International Prize), Zone, and Street of Thieves—as well as being a translator from Persian and Arabic.

Nicole Krauss is the author of Man Walks into a Room, Great House, and the international bestseller The History of Love. Her books have been translated into more than thirty-five languages. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
